Lewis scores multiple runs in four different innings

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - After allowing a run in the top of the first inning, the Lewis University scored 10 straight runs in a 10-1 win over Missouri - St. Louis Friday (March 9).

The win moves the Flyers to 4-7 on the year, while the Tritons fall to 5-6.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second, the Flyers got on the board as an Ethan Bloom (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) single was followed by three straight walks, scoring Bloom. Anthony Rios (Lemont, Ill./St. Laurence) then hit a sacrifice fly to give Lewis a 2-1 lead.

Lewis extended its lead in the top of the sixth when Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) doubled and Trayvon Johnson (Berkeley, Ill./St. Joseph's) tripled to score Tyrell. Austin Tittle (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) reached on an error, scoring Johnson, to give the Flyers a 4-1 lead.

The Flyers added two more runs in the seventh as a hit batter was followed by a Connor Rutherford (DePere, Wis./DePere) triple. Bloom later came through with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the eighth a Sam Cybulski (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Lyons Township) double scored a run and then he scored on a Brandon Post (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) single. Neal Tyrell (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) then drove home Post as well as himself with a two-run homer for the final runs of the game.

Post and Tyrell (2 runs, 2 RBI) each had two hits to lead the Flyers. Pete Hamot (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) (2-0) picked up the win on the mound, going eight innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run, striking out 10. Robert Talarico (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Alex Oltmann (0-2) suffered the loss, giving up four runs on five hits in six innings.
