QUINCY, Ill. – Drew Kask (Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) scored five goals and added two assists as Lewis' men's lacrosse team cruised by Quincy 13-4 on Tuesday afternoon at QU Stadium for its first win of 2021.
Talon Heath (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) aided the offense with four goals as the Flyers improve to 1-1 overall and in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while Quincy falls to 0-2 overall and in league play.
The Hawks struck first as Neal Dardis scored an unassisted goal less than three minutes into the contest but Lewis came right back as Kask answered with his first goal of the afternoon at the 8:47 mark of the opening quarter.
Quincy regained the lead 76 seconds later as Preston Willman tallied his first goal of the season with an assist from Grayson Kuan.
The Flyers closed out the first quarter getting goals from
Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/Pitt Meadows Secondary School) and Heath in the span of 2:33 to take a 3-2 lead. It was a lead Lewis wouldn't relinquish and the start of nine straight Flyer goals.
The Flyers added three more goals in the second stanza with Kask, Heath and
Micah Daigle (Erie, Pa./McDowell) each finding the back of the net to extend their lead to 6-2 at the half.
Lewis continued to pour it on with three more goals in the third quarter. Kask scored his third of the afternoon off an assist from
Jack Stone (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) less than four minutes into the quarter. Heath added his third goal of the afternoon at the 5:29 mark and Kask added his fourth tally in the final minute of the quarter to give the Flyers a 9-2 advantage heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
Xan Brouillet (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) opened the scoring in the final stanza with his first goal of the season at the 11:35 mark. The Hawks got a goal from Mason Marano to cut Lewis' lead to 10-3 but the Flyers responded with three goals in the span of 4:20 to build its largest lead of the game.
Daigle added his second goal of the day at the 9:33 mark with an assist from
Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/Pitt Meadows Secondary School), Heath scored his final goal of the contest near the midway point of the frame and Kask capped the scoring with his final goal off an assist from
Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School) with 5:13 left in the game.
Jayme Brain added an assist goal for Quincy for the final goal of the contest.
Lewis outshot the Hawks 39-16 in the contest and 25-13 in shots on goal. The Flyers forced 22 Hawk turnovers and caused 10 of those. The Flyers picked up 19 ground balls in the contest.
Josh Calvin (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame College Prepatory HS) stopped nine of the 13 shots he faced,
Peter Carlson (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) had four ground ball pickups and won four face-offs.
Lewis hosts Davenport in its home opener this Saturday (Feb. 20) at 3 p.m. at Lewis Stadium. Spectators will be allowed to attend Saturday's contest.
