HILLSDALE, Mich. – Lewis University's men's swimming was edged in its dual against Findlay 116-89 on Saturday afternoon at the Jack McAvoy Natatorium in Hillsdale, Mich. The Flyers drop to 4-3 on the season in dual meets.
Lewis won the opening race of the dual as the 200 Medley Relay team of
Ruben van Leeuwen (Eindhoven, The Netherlands/CIU/Christelyk Lyceum Veenendaal),
Rhys Taylor (Nottingham, England/National C of E Academy),
Ari Kissel (Berlin, Germany/) and
Adrian Wlodarz (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) finished in a time of 1:34.27 which was nearly three seconds below their seed time. The Flyer quartet of
Mariano Sosa (Olavarria, Argentina/),
Jabari Ramsey (Land O' Lakes, Fla./Land O' Lakes),
Carter Thoss (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) and
Russell Smith (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) were fourth at 1:39 and the foursome of
Kevin Soltys (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect),
Alec Danko (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central),
Lucas Mourao (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Presbiteriano Mackenzie) and
Matthew Senese (Joliet, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) finished fifth at 1:40.84.
Jackson Mugg (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne East) picked up the second event win in the 1000 freestyle finishing in a time of 9:51.98 and won the race by nearly five seconds over the Oilers Daniel Garcia.
Isaac Rolfsen (Kalamazoo, Mich./Homeschool) and
Michael Roach (New Market, Maryland/Linganore) finished fourth and fifth with times of 10:01.15 and 10:38.18 respectively.
The Flyers had three of the top five finishers in the 200 free with Taylor finishing second at 1:46.40 while
Miguel Turcios (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Canterbury School) was third in a time of 1:47.38 and
Filip Bjorkholm (Västerås, Sweden/Widenska) took fifth at 1:48.73.
van Leeuwen finished third in the 50 free in a time of 21.39 seconds and was followed by
Ethan Fox (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) in fifth at 22.48 while Ramsey finished sixth with a time of 23.40.
Kissel, Sosa, Turcios and Senese finished second, third, fifth and sixth in the 200 individual medley with times of 1:56.95, 1:59.36, 2:01.62 and 2:02.52 respectively.
van Leeuwen won the 100 fly in a time of 50.55 seconds and was 1.8 seconds shy of achieving a "B" standard qualifying mark for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Thoss and Mourao finished fourth and fifth in the race while
Josh Moellenhoff (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) was seventh and
Jacob Przylucki (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) came in at eight.
The Flyers had three of the top five finishers in the 100 free with Kissel finishing second at 47.59 while Wlodarz was fourth and Smith finished fifth at 49.08 and 49.37 seconds respectively.
Lewis finished second, third, fourth, sixth and seventh in the 100 back as Sosa touched the wall at 53.21 while Fox came in at 53.83, Soltys was right behind at 53.87 Thoss and Roach finished at 56.56 and 56.95 seconds.
Mugg took second in the 500 free in a time of 4:45.59 while Bjorkholm finished fourth at 4:50.29 and Rolfsen was fifth at 4:55.66.
Taylor, Wlodarz and Senese went two, three and four in the 100 breast as Taylor finished at 57.91 followed by Wlodarz at 1:00.68 and Senese at 1:00.74.
In the final event of the dual, the Flyers squad of Fox, Smith, Ramsey and Turcios finished third in the 200 free relay while the quartet of
Erik Fosen (Joliet, Ill./), Soltys, Bjorkholm and Roach were fifth at 1:31.78 and the foursome of Przylucki, Mollenhoff, Rolfsen and Mugg were sixth at 1:36.39.
Lewis returns to the pool on Thursday (Nov. 18) taking part in the three-day House of Champions meet at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
