Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team shot 58.5% from the floor (31-for-53) en route to a 75-60 win over Bellarmine Thursday (Jan. 11) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at Neil Carey Arena.
On those 31 field goals, Lewis had 20 assists. The Flyers also limited the Knights to 34.3% shooting (24-for-70). Lewis outrebounded Bellarmine 42-32 and had 12 steals in the contest.
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) led the Flyers with 27 points and nine rebounds, shooting 12-for-14 (85.7%). It is the seventh straight game Kelliher has eclipsed the 20 point plateau. She also had two blocks and two steals.
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) added 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting, while
Tierney Lockett (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) added nine points.
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) had eight assists and six steals, while
Chrissi Ekhomu (Bolingbrook, Ill./Joliet Catholic)Â had eight boards.
Lewis built a 13-4 lead with 4:50 left in the first quarter after a
Kayla Brewer (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee School of Languages) three-pointer. A basket by
Morgan Glatczak (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago)Â gave the Flyers a 10-point lead before leading 21-13 after the first quarter.
The Flyers maintained their lead throughout the second quarter and scored the final six points of the half, taking a 42-27 lead into the break.
Lewis went on another 6-0 spurt early in the third quarter, thanks to a pair of baskets by Green, to take a 48-29 lead at the 7:41 mark. A pair of Kelliher baskets sparked a 7-0 spurt later in the period as the Flyers built a 57-37 advantage. It was a 60-46 lead for the Flyers after three.
The lead grew to as much as 23 points at 73-50 with 3:28 left in the game.
The win moves the Flyers to 12-4 overall, 5-1 in the GLVC. Bellarmine falls to 7-7 overall, 2-3 in GLVC.
