St. Petersburg, Fla. - Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) scored 31 points as the Lewis University women's basketball team defeated Eckerd 86-82 Sunday (Dec. 17) in a nonconference game at the McArthur Center.
Kelliher shot 14-of-20 from the field and went 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. She also added six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) added 18 points, including a 10-for-10 performance at the foul line, while
Gabby Green (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) totaled 13 points, six assists and five steals.
The Flyers (8-4) shot 61.1 percent (33-of-54) from the field, while Eckerd (9-2) went 28-of-64 (43.8%).
Lewis racked up 18 assists and 10 steals in the contest.
The Tritons jumped out to a 16-8 lead midway through the first quarter, but Lewis rallied to tie the game at 24-24 after one quarter.
A 17-2 Lewis run in the second quarter gave it a 51-36 lead with 1:19 left in the first half and it led 51-39 at the half.
Lewis maintained at least a six point lead throughout the third quarter and led 68-59 after three periods.
A Kelliher layup pushed the lead back up to 14 at 73-59 early in the fourth quarter before Eckerd cut the deficit to one point at 80-79 with 1:01 left in the game.
Four free throws from Hinders and a layup by Green were able to put the game away for the Flyers.
Lewis is back in action Dec. 30 when it travels to take on Saginaw Valley State at 1 PM ET.
