Evansville, Ind. - The Lewis University women's basketball team fell to No. 14 Southern Indiana 67-56 Thursday (Nov. 30) at the Physical Events Center in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams.
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) led the way for the Flyers (4-3, 0-1 GLVC) with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Tierney Lockett (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) scored 15 points, while
Chrissi Ekhomu (Bolingbrook, Ill., Joliet Catholic, St. Francis (Ill.)Â had nine points and three steals.
Kaydie Grooms scored a game-high 23 points for the Screaming Eagles (7-0, 1-0).
Lewis shot 28.4 percent from the game (21-of-74), while USI shot 37.5 (21-of-56).
The Flyers held a 49-43 rebounding advantage and forced 18 turnovers.
Lewis trailed 29-21 at the half and the Screaming Eagles opened the second half with the first 10 points to take a 39-21 lead.
A 10-2 Lewis run got it to within 10 at 49-39 after three quarters. A pair of
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) free throws with 4:45 remaining in the game cut the deficit to two points at 56-54 before USI pulled away.
Lewis travels to Louisville, Kentucky Saturday (Dec. 2) to take on Bellarmine. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 PM ET.
