Kansas City, Mo. - For the fifth-straight season, the Lewis University women's tennis team and Drury University met in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and the No. 20 Panthers won for the third-straight time, earning the 5-2 victory over the Flyers at the Carriage Club on Saturday (April 18).
With the win, Drury improves to 21-1 and advances to the GLVC Finals against Indianapolis on Sunday (Apri. 19). Lewis falls to 12-7 and takes on Missouri-St. Louis at 9 AM in the third-place match.
Lewis earned its victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles as both opponents of junior
Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and sophomore
Ana Banic (Skradin, Croatia/Gimnazija Antuna Vrancica) retired.
"It was a tough match today, but we didn't do the things in doubles that we need to do to be successful," Lewis head women's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said. "I'm proud of the fighting spirit and we need to get ready to play (UMSL) tomorrow."
