The Lewis University women's tennis team advanced to the Great Lakes Valley Conference semifinals for the fifth-straight year as the Flyers claimed the 5-3 win over Maryville in the GLVC Quarterfinals at Rockhurst/Loyola Park on Friday (April 17) morning.

"We played solid tennis and got the job done against a good Maryville team," Lewis head women's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "It's always a good thing to advance in the tournament."

Lewis (12-6) moves on to the next round and will take on Drury at 9 AM on Saturday (April 18) morning at the Plaza Tennis Center. Maryville ends its season with a record of 10-9.

The Flyers jumped out to an early 2-1 lead over the Saints in doubles action. At No. 1 doubles, Lewis' tandem of freshman Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) and junior Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) earned the 9-8 (2) win over Maryville's Puck Vlaskamp and Anne Lutz. Mindiyarova was also successful at No. 1 singles, as she blanked Kine Kleppe, 6-0, 6-0.
