Lucas Yanez (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) was named as the final Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week for the 2014 season, the league announced on Tuesday (April 15). Yanez previously won the weekly award on March 4
th.
"Lucas has been playing some of his best volleyball the past month," Lewis head men's volleyball coach
Dan Friend said. "He has been a big catalyst in helping us get better from both a serve receive and floor defense stand point."
In two straight-set victories over Grand Canyon last week, Yanez collected 19 digs and had a perfect reception percentage in 19 attempts. He also dished out four assists.
Along with Yanez' two defensive weekly honors, sophomore middle blocker
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) (Jan. 14) and redshirt freshman middle blocker
Jacob Schmiegelt (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) (Jan. 28) picked up the defensive honors for the Flyers this season.
The No. 11 Flyers return to action on Friday (April 18) in the first-round of the MIVA Tournament, hosting Grand Canyon for a 7 PM first serve at Neil Carey Arena.
