HTML ResultsROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis women's swimming won five events on Saturday (Nov. 1) evening as the Flyers hosted Grand Valley State at the Lewis Pool in Lewis' first home meet of the season. The Flyers fell to the Lakers 157-105.
The Lewis women opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. Sophomore
Courtney Duy (Buckeye, Ariz./Millennium), junior
Montana Clasby (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls), junior
Shelby Leonard (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota) and senior
Cindy Jezuit (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) combined for the victory. They combined for a pool-record time of 1:49.00.
The relay win was the first of four victories for Leonard on the day. She came back in the 200 freestyle to take the title with a time of 1:55.48. She also won the 200 backstroke with a pool record time of 2:06.69. Later in the meet she took home the 100 butterfly title (59.71), nearly two seconds quicker than the second place finisher.
Sophomore
Sarah Cameron (Brownstone, Mich./Carlson) won the 200 breastroke with a time of 2:27.43. She bested her teammate as Clasby finished .56 behind Cameron.
"I was incredibly proud of both teams," Lewis head coach
Roger Karns said. "They swam confidently and aggressively. The result from both meets show just how far this team has come in the last couple of years. We broke pool records, won great races and showed what we can do. Both GVSU teams were 10
th at nationals last year. This is a group that is beginning to understand just how good they can be."
Lewis has a busy weekend coming up as the Flyers host Valparaiso on Friday (Nov. 7) at 3 p.m. and then Truman State and Lake Forest at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Nov. 8).
