ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Former Lewis University women's basketball student-athlete Labrenthia Murdock has signed a contract to play professionally with KFI (Körfuknattleiksfélag Ísafjarðar) based out of Isafjordur, Iceland.
"I'm very excited and nervous at the same time to be living in a foreign country and to be playing basketball at the professional level," Murdock said. "But I'm praying for the best. I'm very grateful for this opportunity and hope to learn and grow from this experience as a person and as a basketball player."
The season can range anywhere from six to eight months. Murdock will coach in Iceland as well.
"It has always been Labrenthia's dream to play basketball at the professional level," Lewis head coach
Lisa Carlsen said. "She has a great passion for the game and I'm so excited and proud of her that she will get this opportunity. I wish her the best of luck!"
During her four-year career (2009-13), Murdock racked up 1,124 points while appearing in 116 games. During her final season as a Flyer (2012-13) she was named to both the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Second Team and the All-GLVC Defensive Team. Murdock helped the Flyers to GLVC Championships in 2011 and 2013.
