Romeoville, Ill. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Tuesday (Jan 28) that Lewis University junior outside hitter
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) has been named Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Volleyball Division I-II National Player of the Week.
Petty hit a combined .600 (25 K, 4 E, 35 TA) last weekend he helped the No. 10 Flyers to victories over then-ranked No. 13 Harvard and Sacred Heart. He also tallied nine digs, nine block assists, four assists and three service aces over seven sets of action.
"Greg was great offensively for us," Lewis head men's volleyball coach
Dan Friend said. "He has done a nice job filling in at the L1 spot this year."
His most impressive performance came in the sweep of Sacred Heart, hitting a blistering .706 with 14 kills and two errors in 17 swings. One day earlier, Petty collected 11 kills and had a hitting percentage of .500 (11 K, 2 E, 18 TA) against Harvard.
This is the second AVCA weekly honor of Petty's career, as he also received the recognition on Jan. 24, 2012.
The Flyers return to action at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Jan. 30) as the Flyers welcome Missouri Baptist for a 7 PM match on Pizza Night.
