Romeoville, Ill. – Lewis University redshirt freshman middle blocker
Jacob Schmiegelt (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) was selected as the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday (Jan. 28).
Schmiegelt tallied 11 total blocks (1 solo, 10 block assists) in the Flyer victories over then-ranked No. 13 Harvard and Sacred Heart last weekend. He also hit .333 with five kills and two errors in nine attempts in seven sets.
In the Flyers sweep of Sacred Heart, Schmiegelt posted a career-high nine total blocks (1 solo, 8 block assists), helping him move up the ranks to third in the MIVA and 20
th nationally with 29 total blocks (3 solo, 19 block assists).

The No. 10 Flyers return to Neil Carey Arena to host Missouri Baptist on Thursday (Jan. 30). First serve is set for 7 PM.
