Indianapolis, Ind. - The Lewis University women's tennis team made it a clean sweep of the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional Championships, as the Flyer duo of
Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and
Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) won the doubles championship for the third-straight year, with Lanstiak also taking home the singles title at North Central High School on Sunday (Sept. 29).
The Hungarian duo picked up the 8-6 win over Wayne State's Annie Li Briand and Yahsha Moore to win the title.
In singles action, Lanstiak avenged last season's championship loss to Drury's Natalia Kozel with a 6-2, 6-4 win. Kranczicki rallied for the 5-7, 6-2; 1-0 (10-4) win over Kozel's teammate Hadeil Ali to set up a rematch of the 2011 Midwest Regional singles championship between herself and Lanstiak.
It was Lanstiak, however, that emerged the victor, as she rallied for the 9-7, 6-1 win over Kranczicki.
They now advance to the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships in Fort Myers, Fla., from October 10-13th.
