Romeoville, Ill. – Lewis University head men's volleyball coach Dan Friend has rounded out his 2013-14 recruiting class with the additions of JB Brinkerhoff (Hilliard, Ohio/Hillard Darby), John Hodul (Orland Park, Ill/Sandburg), and Lucas Yanez (Burbank, Calif./Burroughs/Pierce College).

"With all three guys, it is great for the program to have proven winners that can develop into stars," Friend said. "I believe all of them will make their mark on the program."

Brinkerhoff (6-5, 175, outside hitter) was named to the All-State Second Team as he helped the Panthers to a 24-1 season record, including the Ohio State Championship this season. He tallied 238 kills, 143 digs, 28 total blocks and 16 aces in his senior year. Brinkerhoff will compete with his club team, Vanguard, at the US Junior National Championships later in June and he received a USA Volleyball High Performance Continental Team invitation.

"JB is an awesome pick up for us at the end of the year," Friend said. "He has great athleticism and can already contact the ball from an extremely high point.

"I'm looking forward to seeing JB take the steps to excel at the collegiate level."

Hodul (6-9, 175, middle hitter) helped the Eagles to a 30-8 record and a second-straight regional championship in 2013. He collected 282 kills, 133 blocks and seven digs as a senior. Hodul gained experience by playing three seasons with the D1 Southside Volleyball Club team, as well as playing with the USA High Performance Boys Youth Continental Team.

"I'm always excited to get another Sandburg product for our gym," Friend said. "John brings some great size and energy to the middle position.

"He has improved tremendously over the past few years and has a huge ceiling of potential to make an impact down the road for us."

Yanez (5-10, 160, libero) joins the Flyers after playing two seasons with Los Angeles Pierce College, earning Western State Conference Most Valuable Player accolades in 2013. In his prep career at John Burroughs High, he was named All-League MVP, All-Area First Team, All-California Interscholastic Federation First Team as well as Burbank, Calif., Athlete of the Year in 2011. He finished with 660 career kills in three seasons on the Burroughs varsity squad.

"We are looking for Lucas to make an immediate impact in the libero position and compete for a spot right away," Friend said. "His aggressive style of play will elevate the gym and improve our team ball control."

The trio will join outside hitter Tom Beckmann (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High), middle hitter Conner Lammey (West Grove, Penn./Avon Grove), and setter Gert Lisha (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North).
