No. 45 Rockhurst Edges No. 36 Lewis Men's Tennis, 5-4, In GLVC Quarterfinals

Hawks earn two wins in doubles play to guide them to victory.

The No. 36 Lewis University men's tennis team was unable to overcome a slow start, as No. 45 Rockhurst won two out of three doubles matches on their way to the 5-4 win over the Flyers in the 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Quarterfinals at the West Indy Racquet Club.

With the win, Rockhurst is now 12-6, while the Flyers are 7-7 on the campaign.

Lewis' lone win came at No. 3 doubles, where sophomore Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and junior Philip Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli/Creighton) earned the 8-5 victory over Truit Gray and Anthony Ibarra.

In singles play, Lewis sophomore Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) claimed the 6-1, 7-5 win over Rodolfo Gauto-Mariotti at No. 1. Flyer junior Florian Etienne (Paris, France/Jean de la Fontaine) (Paris, France/Jean de la Fontaine/Shorter) picked up the 7-6, 6-3 triumph over John Lazenby at No. 3 singles, while Lewis senior Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) outlasted Pawel Grzegrzolka, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

Lewis will now await word on whether they have qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament.
