Canton, Ohio – Lewis University women's swimmer junior
Sarah Kenis (Herndon, Va./Oakcrest) (Herndon, Va./Oakcrest) finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.55 to reach the podium on the final day of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming Championships at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Kenis' mark also earned a NCAA B cut time in the event.
“We wanted to make a statement this week about the direction Lewis swimming was headed and I feel they accomplished that,” Lewis head women's swimming coach
Roger Karns said. “They raced smart and well and I couldn't be more pleased.”
Senior
Orla Power (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose) (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose) also earned a NCAA B cut with a fourth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:36.11.
Freshman
Kinsey Coble (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson), senior
Angela Cusack (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township), and sophomores
Katie Hallenbeck (Plano, Ill./Plano) (Plano, Ill./Plano) and
Cindy Jezuit (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) teamed up to post a NCAA B cut time of 3:34.92 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Lewis finished seventh out of 10 schools with 253 points. Wayne State won the Championship with 861.5 points.
The Flyers will next prepare for the 2012-13 NCAA Swimming Championships on March 6-9 in Birmingham, Ala.
