No. 14 Lewis Men’s Volleyball Opens MIVA Play At Home Against Lindenwood

First serve is set for 7 PM.

Both of the Flyers' weekend matches will start at 7 PM.
Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 14 Lewis University men's volleyball team opens Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play at Neil Carey Arena on Friday (Feb. 8) when the Flyers host MIVA newcomer Lindenwood at 7 PM. Fans are encouraged to wear blue in support of Prostate Awareness Night on Friday.
    Lewis will host Quincy in MIVA action on Saturday (Feb. 9), also Military Appreciation Night, with first serve at 7 PM. All military members will be admitted for free.
     Live stats, audio and video streaming of Friday and Saturday's matches can be found at www.LewisFlyers.com. Both matches can also be heard on WLRA (88.1 FM) with Shane Gustafson and T'Rell Campbell calling Friday's match, while Bob Wittingham will join Gustafson to provide the action on Saturday.
 
FRIEND INDUCTED INTO NEWMAN HOF - Head Coach Dan Friend was inducted into Newman University's Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday (Feb. 2). He was the head coach of NU's men's and women's programs from 2001-04 and led the 2004 men's squad to the NAIA National Championship match in the program's third year.
 
PETTY & FITTERER RECOGNIZED BY MIVA - Redshirt senior outside hitter Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) earned MIVA Defensive Player of the Week on Jan. 28 after he posted a .191 hitting percentage (27 K, 14 E, 68 A), 27 digs, eight total blocks and five aces. Sophomore opposite Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) tallied a .414 hitting percentage (32 K, 8 E, 58 A), 15 digs and seven total blocks for his Offensive Player of the Week award on Feb. 4th.
 
SETTIN' STORM - Redshirt junior setter BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) is in the top-10 in assists, sitting in 4th with 2,703 total assists. Current assistant coach and former Lewis setter Mike Iandolo is third with 3,389 total assists (2008-10).
 
HOME SWEET HOME - Lewis has an eight-match winning streak in home MIVA openers, with their last loss coming against IPFW in 2004.
 
SERIES RECORDS - The Flyers hold a 4-1 series lead over MIVA newcomer Lindenwood and a 32-1 record over Quincy. Both losses came in three sets during the 2006 season.
 
TO 1,000 KILLS & BEYOND - Petty captured his 1,000th kill against George Mason on Jan. 26. He has 1,035 total kills which puts him 8th all-time in the rally scoring era. Jeff Soler (2002-05) is 7th with 1,250 total kills.
 
IN THE NATIONAL RANKS - With the release of the fifth American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I-II Poll on Monday (Feb. 4), Lewis has been in the national rankings for 36-straight weeks.
