Romeoville, Ill. -
Drury University junior defender Ryan Haas headed in a cross pass from sophomore Matt Clarkin in the 96th minute to lift the visiting Panthers to the 1-0 overtime victory over No. 14 Lewis University in the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Soccer Tournament at Lewis Stadium on Sunday (Nov. 3) afternoon.

With the victory, Drury improves to 13-6 on the campaign and will play the winner of Bellarmine/Indianapolis on Friday (Nov. 8). Lewis falls to 12-2-4 on the season and will await word of a berth in the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament.

Lewis enjoyed a statistical advantage on the scoresheet, as the Flyers outshot the Panthers, 17-8, and held a 12-2 edge in corner kicks. The Flyers, however, were unable to convert, and that was the difference according to Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles.

"We played well for 90 minutes and the overtime, but we were not sharp in the final third," Fiffles said. "We had (12) corner kicks that we needed to capitalize on and we were not sharp in restarts, and that was the difference in the game."

Drury goalkeeper Blake Andrews made five saves for the Panthers, while Flyer netminder Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) made four stops.
