ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis freshman
Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) was named to the All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the NCAA Men's Volleyball National Collegiate Championship on Saturday.
The Flyers dropped a four-set decision to USC in the National Semifinals on May 3. Powell hit .355 with 17 kills, nine digs and an ace against the Trojans in the contest. He recorded seven kills in Lewis' third set victory over the Trojans.
“Geoff played a fantastic game for us and really put some pressure on USC,” Lewis head coach
Dan Friend said. “The honor is indicative of his body of work toward the end of the season and how he made the team better.”
Powell, the 2012 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Freshman of the Year, is the first Flyer to earn NCAA All-Tournament Team honors since Jeff Soler in 2004.
Lewis finished the 2012 season 26-7 and champions of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
