INDIANAPOLIS - Lewis was swept in a Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball doubleheader by Indianapolis 6-1 and 12-7 at Greyhound Park on Saturday (April 7) afternoon.

Lewis tallied just one run in the opener. Indianapolis scored in five of the six innings they batted. Six of Indianapolis' eight hits went for extra bases.

Lewis' lone run in game one came on an RBI sacrifice fly by senior Mike Bolling (Chicago, Ill./Guerin Prep) (Chicago, Ill./Guerin Prep/Triton) in the fifth. It scored sophomore Kyle Kapka (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect).

Junior Matt Frahm (McLean, Ill./Olympia) (Olympia, Ill./Olympia) started and took the loss for the Flyers. Frahm went five innings and allowed four runs. He struck out six batters. Frahm is now 4-2. JaVaun West (3-0) allowed one run in five innings to pick up the win for the Greyhounds.

“Matt wasn't as sharp as he's been but we felt like we could have scored a few more runs,” Lewis head coach Tim McDonough said. “I think Indy came out with more urgency in game one.”

In game two, Lewis scored six runs in the third to take a 6-1 lead. The big hit in the frame was a bases clearing double by sophomore Ben Albano (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) to drive in three runs.

Indianapolis jumped back in the game with a run in the fourth, and five runs in both the fifth and sixth. Bryce Feller's three-run home run in the sixth gave Indianapolis a 12-6 lead.

Freshman Phil Warner (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) started for the Flyers. He was removed in the fifth when he ran into trouble. Warner allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits but was done in by seven walks. Sophomore Tom Durkin (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) entered in the fifth and allowed two runs (one earned). He took the loss for the Flyers and is now 3-2. Gavid Petrea threw three innings of one run ball in relief to earn the win for Indianapolis. His record is now 1-0.

“All of game two we were getting behind in counts and had trouble throwing strikes,” McDonough said. “Even after it was 7-6 I thought we were in pretty good shape but we didn't answer in our half of the sixth and then they put up a five spot again.”

Albano finished game two 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. He needed just a home run for the cycle. Bolling also had three hits for Lewis in game two. Freshman Mike Barajas (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth) (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth) had two hits in each game.

Indianapolis improves to 19-9 (12-4 GLVC). Lewis falls to 20-10 (11-7 GLVC).

The Flyers host St. Xavier on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in a non-conference game. Lewis welcomes Kentucky Wesleyan to Romeoville on Saturday and Sunday for GLVC doubleheaders starting at noon.
