Somers, Wis. -
Lewis University junior shortstop Michelle Vucsko (Chicago, Ill./Marist) (Chicago, Ill./Marist) provided the fireworks in the opener and freshman pitcher Kelly Bowler (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) tossed a complete-game shutout in the nightcap, as the visiting Flyers claimed the 11-2 (5 inn.), 3-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader sweep over UW-Parkside at the Case Softball Complex on Wednesday (Apr. 18) afternoon.

Vucsko went 2-for-4 with five RBI, including her team-best, sixth home run of the season in game one, while Bowler (10-4) allowed two hits and struck out six batters for her team-best third shutout.

With the sweep, Lewis improves to 25-22 overall and 17-15 in GLVC action, while the host Rangers are now 5-43 on the campaign and 4-28 in conference play. Lewis has now won nine of their last 10 contests.

In the opener, Vucsko recorded five RBI in her first two at-bats, with a three-run homer in the first and a two-run single in the second inning, as the Flyers built a 7-1 lead. Flyer sophomore left fielder Jessica Rourke (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, while junior right fielder Lauren Hanford (Morris, Ill./Morris) (Morris, Ill./Morris) was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored.

Lewis freshman pitcher Ali Brems (Kenosha, Wis./Harborside) (Kenosha, Wis./Harborside) earned the complete-game victory for the Flyers, as she held the Rangers to two runs (one earned), four hits and struck out six batters to improve to 8-11 on the season. UW-Parkside starting pitcher Kelynn Sporer (2-16) took the loss for the Rangers, as she surrendered seven runs and six hits in 1.1 innings of work.

In game two, Hanford, Rourke and Vucsko provided all the offense that the Flyers needed. Hanford and Vucsko each drove in a run with sacrifice flies, while Rourke (2-for-3) connected for a RBI single in the fourth inning. Lewis junior center fielder Jayme Hefler (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) collected her 200th career hit and scored two runs in game two.

UW-Parkside starting pitcher Kristin Kleinmeyer dropped to 2-20 on the campaign, as she allowed three  runs (one earned) and seven hits, while walking four.

"We really started fast today and I thought Michelle Vucsko (Chicago, Ill./Marist) set the tone with her three-run homer," Lewis head softball coach George DiMatteo said. "The second game was all Kelly Bowler (Lockport, Ill./Lockport). She kept UW-Parkside off-balance with her change-up and her fastball. She pitched really well and you can see her confidence out there."

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 21), as the Flyers head to Owensboro, Ky., to square off with Kentucky Wesleyan for a 12 p.m. (CST) doubleheader.
