St. Cloud, Minn.
- Lewis University freshman Ali Brems (Kenosha, Wis./Harborside) (Kenosha, Wis./Harborside) tossed a complete-game, five-hitter, while striking out 12 batters to lift the Flyers to a 5-1 non-conference victory over host St. Cloud State in the final game of the Husky Dome Classic on Sunday (Feb. 26) morning.

The 12 strikeouts by Brems (2-2) was the most by a Flyer pitcher since Courtney Lyons (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro) fanned 13 UW-Parkside batters in an 8-2 win over the Rangers on April 15, 2009.

"Ali had a great command of her pitches today," Lewis head softball coach George DiMatteo said. "All of her pitches were working and really kept St. Cloud State off-balance, because they did not know what to expect."

With the victory, Lewis improves to 3-6 on the campaign, while the Huskies are now 5-4 on the season.

Offensively, Lewis was led by juniors Jayme Hefler (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and Michelle Vucsko (Chicago, Ill./Marist) (Chicago, Ill./Marist), as they both collected three hits off of St. Cloud State losing pitcher Kendra Merritt. (3-3). Vucsko collected a RBI single that scored Hefler in the Flyers' five-run, second-inning.

Flyer junior left fielder Jessica Rourke (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) collected a two-run, sacrifice fly in the second inning, while senior third baseman Traci Freitag (Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central) (Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central) plated a run with a squeeze bunt.

Lewis junior left fielder Lauren Hanford (Morris, Ill./Morris) (Morris, Ill./Morris) and senior second baseman Alicia McKendry (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) each went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Flyers against the Huskies.

"I thought we played one of our best games of the season yesterday against Augustana and that performance really carried into today's game," DiMatteo said.

Lewis opens up Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Saturday (March 3), as the Flyers head to Rolla, Mo., to square off with Missouri S&T for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
