Indianapolis, Ind. – Fueled by double-doubles from seniors Jen Krumwiede (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) and Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic), the Lewis University women's volleyball team defeated Missouri S&T, 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-9) on Saturday (Nov. 17) to advance to the 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Finals at the ISSA.

The Flyers head into their seventh consecutive GLVC Championship title match, after Lewis avenged their earlier loss 3-0 to Missouri S&T in Rolla, Mo., on Oct. 7. In 2007, in the GLVC semi-final match against SIUE, Lewis was able to battle back from a 0-2 deficit to win 3-2 and keep advancing in post-season play.

Krumwiede posted 19 kills and 17 digs while Mitros had 12 kills and 20 digs in the victory.

“I have to give credit to senior captain Mary Carroll (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central),” Lewis head women's volleyball coach Lorelee Smith said. “She is really good at getting the team fired up and making them give that extra effort to really push.”

Missouri S&T took the first two sets both by a score of 25-22. Lewis was able to come back in the third set on strong serving from sophomore Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport). Davito had three straight serves that earned points off Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township) kills.

A kill from Mitros on a set by Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) to win the third set 25-21. Barea had 45 assists in five sets.

Perschnick hit her serving stride in the fourth set, serving five times to help push Lewis' lead to 18-15. The Flyers earned points off of kills by Jillian Carlberg (Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee), Barea and Krumwiede and were able to capitalize on a Minors attack error.

Mitros again wrapped up the fourth set, 25-21, for the Flyers with a kill on a set from Barea.

The Flyers held the momentum in the fifth set, getting out to an 8-2 lead on strong serving from Davito. She was able to put the ball in play that allowed the Flyers to score five points on kills from Perschnick and Mitros, two service aces and help the team capitalize on a Minors' ball handling error.

Missouri S&T cut into Lewis' lead in the fifth set but couldn't hold serve to push past. Perschnick scored her 18th kill of the match to win the set 15-9 and the match 3-2 for the Flyers.

Lewis will play the winner of the semi-final match between Indianapolis and Rockhurst on Sunday (Nov. 18) at 2 PM ET at the ISSA in Indianapolis, Ind.
