No. 6 Rockhurst Ends Lewis Men's Soccer Season With 2-0 Victory

Hawks advance to GLVC semifinals; Flyers' four-game winning streak comes to an end.

- The Lewis University men's soccer team's four-game winning streak and the 2012 season came to an end for the Flyers, as No. 6 Rockhurst claimed the 2-0 victory in the Great Lakes Valley Conference quarterfinals at the Wilfred C. Bourke Athletic Field on Sunday (Oct. 28) afternoon.

Rockhurst improves to 15-2-2 and will take on the winner of Bellarmine/Southern Indiana on Friday (Nov. 2). Lewis' ends the 2012 season with a record of 9-9.

Rockhurst's Mark Magee opened up the scoring for the Hawks at the 31:05 mark of the first half, as he beat Lewis goalkeeper Sebastian Kieruzal (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) for his 14th goal of the season. Jon Schreiber and Jordan Giacoletto both assisted on the play.

The Hawks tacked on an insurance goal in the 77th minute when Luke Moore found the back of the net on a corner kick to extend the lead to 2-0. Schreiber and Jake Grimes both earned assists.

Kieruzal made eight saves on the afternoon, while Rockhurst All-America goalkeeper Ryan Bass turned away one Flyer shot.

"Rockhurst did what they needed to do today and they got the result (they wanted)," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "We couldn't get anything going today and it's disappointing that we didn't play up to our capabilities."

As a team, Rockhurst outshot Lewis, 18-5, including 10 shots on frame.
