ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 13 Lewis men's volleyball opened the 2012 campaign with a home exhibition contest against Windsor on Wednesday evening. The Flyers won the match 4-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-22, 25-12). The squads agreed before the match to play a fourth set no matter the score of the first three.
Sophomore setter
BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) played three sets and recorded 34 assists and three aces. Junior
Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) totaled a match-high 12 kills. Freshmen outside hitters
Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) and
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) each recorded seven kills.
Lewis held a 13-to-7.5 edge in blocks while out-hitting the Lancers .321 to .089.
“Tonight was a great opportunity. The guys came out really well but weren't as crisp in the next two games,” head coach
Dan Friend said. “I think in all we learned some things we need to work on before we head out to Pepperdine.”
The Flyers open the 2012 season for real on Saturday at 9 p.m. CT at No. 9 Pepperdine.
