ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis junior outside hitter Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive Player of the Week. Petty helped the ninth ranked Lewis men's volleyball team to a 2-1 record and second place finish at the Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii last week. Petty's play earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Petty guided the Flyers to a 3-2 victory over host No. 13 Hawaii on Friday evening. He recorded a match-best and season-high 22 kills while connecting for a .289 (22-9-45) hitting percentage. The 22 kills were the most by any MIVA player last week.

In Thursday's tournament-opener against UCLA, Petty helped the Flyers take a set off the nation's third-ranked squad by totaling a team-high 13 kills and adding a pair of aces. Petty, who did not play in the Flyers' win over Springfield College on Saturday, finished the week averaging 4.17 points and 3.89 kills per set, while hitting .215 over a pair of top-15 opponents. He also averaged 1.11 digs, 0.44 assists and 0.22 aces, while collecting just one reception error in 44 attempts.

“It was a solid week for Jay and the guys,” Lewis head coach Dan Friend said. “Jay put up some excellent numbers against two top 15 ranked teams.”

The award is Petty's third MIVA Offensive Player of the Week of his career.

The Flyers are 3-2 on the season. Lewis hosts No. 6 Penn State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
