ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University men's volleyball team earned the No. 9 ranking in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division I-II Poll released Monday, Jan. 9.

It matches the highest ranking for the Flyers since Dan Friend took over the program in 2005. The last time Lewis was No. 9 was on March 2nd, 2009.

The Flyers moved up four spots from their initial ranking of No. 13 in the Preseason Poll due to a 3-1 victory over then No. 9 Pepperdine on Friday to open the season.

“I'm excited for the guys and it's a great start,” Friend said. “They have worked hard to prepare and be at a good spot for the beginning of the season. Rankings come as a result of that. We have a lot of work to do and are headed in the right direction.”

Lewis is 1-1 and will face No. 3 UCLA on Thursday at Hawaii's Outrigger Invitational at 8 p.m. CT. UCLA is 2-1 on the season.
