NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Thanks to a 350 team score Lewis women's golf won the North Central Cardinal Classic on Tuesday afternoon. The Flyers won the event held at Cress Creek Country Club by 16 strokes over Carthage and North Central. The tournament had a total of 13 teams entered.

The Flyers were led by freshman Breanne Fredette (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Balmoral) (Winnipeg, Manitoba). She placed second overall with a score of 84 in her collegiate debut.

“Breanne had an up and down round but finished strong,” head coach Skip Steffey said. “She had a putt on the last hole that just lipped out which would have tied her for the lead. It was a nice performance in her collegiate debut.”

Senior Leila Marquet (Courdimanch, France/Lycee Notre-Dame de la Compassion) (Courdimanch, France/Lycee Notre-Dame de la Compassion Webber College) finished sixth overall by carding a score of 88. Juniors Vanessa Phillips (Metamora, Ill./Metamora Township) (Metamora, Ill./Metamora Township) and Carly Shapiro (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) tied for seventh with an 89. Sophomore Danielle Coffman (Streamwood, Ill./St. Edward Central) (Streamwood, Ill. / St. Edward Central/Carthage) tied for 10th with a 90 in her first tournament as a Flyer. Junior Nicole Tucker (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Preparatory) rounded out Lewis' starting lineup by shooting a 93 and tying for 16th.

“We didn't do anything fancy today but we held it together to get the victory,” Steffey said. “It was a good start but we will have to step it up two or three notches as we get ready for Green Bay.”

The Flyers are at the UW-Green Bay Phoenix Invitational on Monday at Tuesday.
