TAMPA, Fla. – After winning a match earlier in the day due to impressive serving, No. 15 Lewis women's volleyball had the tables turned on them Friday evening during a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-14) loss to No. 4 Tampa. The Spartans held a 7-1 edge in aces over the Flyers. Tampa also out-hit Lewis .456 to .181.

“We switched our defense up in the third set but we hadn't practiced it yet,” head coach Lorelee Smith said. “We dug a few more in that third set but having never practiced it we were out of place at times.”

Junior Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) paced Lewis with nine kills. Senior Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan), junior Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township) (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township/Nova Southeastern) and junior Jen Krumwiede (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial/IPFW) each had six kills. Krumwiede also added seven digs.

Danielle Selkridge had a match-high 14 kills.

“When we handled the ball we were in it, but Tampa handled the ball better tonight,” Smith said. “However we never lost energy and the desire to win which I was happy with.”

Tampa improves to 2-0 with the win while Lewis falls to 2-1.

The Flyers finish their Florida trip with an in-region contest on Saturday against Tiffin. First serve is slated for 4:45 p.m. ET.
