GREEN BAY Wis. - After leading the tournament after the first round yesterday, the Lewis women's golf team slipped to third place on the final day of the Green Bay Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 13) at Green Bay Country Club.
Lewis finished the invite with a team score of 642 (309-333). The tournament featured eight Division I teams as Butler University took first place with a 617 (310-307).
Senior
Leila Marquet (Courdimanch, France, Lycee Notre-Dame de la Compassion, Webber College) led the way for the Flyers with a fourth place finish after a 154 (74-80). Playing as an individual, sophomore
Danielle Coffman (Streamwood, Ill., St. Edward Central, Carthage) shot a 162 (82-80) and tied for 14th. Freshman
Breanne Fredette (Winnipeg, Manitoba) completed her first tournament as a Flyer tied for 16th with a 163 (79-84).
"Leila played a nice steady round today but couldn't get as many putts to drop as she did yesterday," head coach
Skip Steffey said. "It was great to see her add another top-five finish to her resume."
Junior
Nicole Tucker (Phoenix, Ariz., Xavier College Preparatory) carded a 164 (79-85), finishing tied for 20th as classmate
Vanessa Phillips (Metamora, Ill., Metamora Township) placed tied for 28th with a 167 (83-84).
Rounding out the top five for the Flyers, junior
Carly Shapiro (Lockport, Ill., Lockport Township) finished tied for 30th after a 168 (77-91).
"The conditions were very windy today but the girls played hard with a very respectable showing finisheing third overall," Steffey added. It's always nice to beat other schools from Illinois who are right in our backyard in recruiting."
The Flyers return to the course this Sunday (Sept. 18), playing in the Screaming Eagle Classic at Cambridge CC in Evansville, Ind.
