Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University's inaugural home game on the brand new turf of the Multi-Purpose Athletics Complex was anything but memorable, as the Flyers dropped a 1-0 overtime heartbreaker against Saginaw Valley State on Thursday (Sept. 1) evening.

Saginaw Valley forward Zach Walega was able to breakaway from a pack at midfield where teammate Morley Burns was able to send a pass his way. Walega drove towards the left post and was able to beat Lewis goalkeeper Sebastian Kieruzal (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) with a perfectly placed ball in the right corner for the game-winner at the 91:52 mark.

With the win, Saginaw Valley improves to 1-0 on the season, while the Flyers fall to 0-1 on the campaign.

"We have to do things better," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "The things that we concentrated on in camp we're struggling to do right now. We did not execute our gameplan today and we have to get better."

Kieruzal made two saves on the afternoon, while his counterpart Jason Wise stopped four Flyer shots. Lewis outshot the Cardinals, 13-9, including a 4-3 advantage on shots on goal.

The Flyers return to action on Saturday (Sept. 3) as they welcome Northwood to the Lewis University Multi-Purpose Athletics Complex for a 4 p.m. (CST) kickoff.
