Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University's
Jayme Hefler (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and
Diana Pickrum (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest), both All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball First Team selections, were named to the Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region Second Team, in a vote by the region's sports information directors, announced on Wednesday (May 18).
"What a great honor for Jayme and Diana to be named to the All-Region team," Lewis head softball coach
George DiMatteo said. "They both played significant roles in helping us win the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament title for the second-straight year."
Hefler, who was named to the First Team as a freshman, led the Flyers in batting average (.369) for the second-straight season. She led the Flyers in hits (59), runs (41), stolen bases (41) and on-base percentage (.471). Her 41 stolen bases broke her own single-season record of 40 set in 2010.
Pickrum finished the season with a record of 18-6 with a team-best 11 shutouts, 85 strikeouts and a 2.26 earned run average. Her 11 shutouts is the fourth-most in school-history for a single-season, while her 18 victories is the eighth-best.
