Romeoville, Ill. -
The Lewis University men's basketball team held Ferris State without a field goal in the first 10 minutes of their regional showdown and limited them to a 26.9% (14-for-52) shooting performance from the field on their way to the 62-44 non-conference win over the visiting Bulldogs at Neil Carey Arena on Saturday (Nov. 19) afternoon.

The 44 points was the fewest allowed by a Flyer squad since a 68-39 win over St. Francis (Ill.) on November 28, 2009. It was also the lowest field goal percentage by an opponent since an 89-44 win over St. Francis (Ill.) on November 29, 2008.

"We did a lot of really good things on the defensive end today," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "I thought we really competed that way. We limited their best players to tough, contested shots and I thought we rebounded well."

Lewis senior point guard Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) topped the Flyers with a game-high 17 points, followed by 14 points from freshman guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) and 10 points from junior guard David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) (Batavia, Ill./Batavia).

With the win, Lewis improves to 2-0 on the season for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign. Ferris State is now 0-3 on the campaign.

The Flyers enjoyed a sizeable advantage on the boards, as Lewis, led by a game-high nine rebounds from senior center Marty Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg), out-rebounded Ferris State, 43-31.

"It was a good in-region win," Trost said. "We do, however, have a lot to learn and to build on as a group.

"We just have to keep getting better"

Ferris State's Jerell Sanders and Kenny Brown each scored 11 points for the Bulldogs, combining to shoot 7-for-27 from the field.

Lewis returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 22) night, as the Flyers welcome Trinity International for a 7:30 p.m. showdown at Neil Carey Arena.
