MADISON, Ill. - The Lewis women's golf team maintained their third place start from yesterday's opening round of the Lady Triton Invitational on Tuesday completing the tournament with a 619 (308-311) at the Gateway Golf Links.
Missouri-St. Louis won the event with a 593 (297-296).
Junior
Nicole Tucker (Phoenix, Ariz., Xavier College Preparatory) tied for 10th overall after a 152 (74-78). Senior
Leila Marquet (Courdimanch, France, Lycee Notre-Dame de la Compassion, Webber College) was three spots back tied for 13th with a 153 (76-77).
Junior
Carly Shapiro (Lockport, Ill., Lockport Township) fired a 159 (75-84) and tied for 25th while freshman
Breanne Fredette (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Balmoral) tied for 27th after a 160 (84-76). Junior
Vanessa Phillips (Metamora, Ill., Metamora Township) rounded out the top-five for Lewis tied for 37th, carding a 163 (83-80).
Playing as an individual, sophomore
Danielle Coffman (Streamwood, Ill., St. Edward Central, Carthage) shot a 162 (81-81) and tied for 33rd.
"It was a fantastic team effort to finish third in a loaded field which will really help in our push towards a conference title and possibly into the NCAA tournament," head coach Skip Steffey said. "With everyone contributing it just goes to show the depth we have on the team this year."
The tournament concludes Lewis' fall season. The Flyers are back in action March 8-9, 2012 at the Shootout in Arizona in Phoenix, Ariz at Aguila Golf Course.
