The Lewis University baseball team received two stellar pitching performances Tuesday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader loss to Wisconsin-Parkside.
In the seven-inning opener, Ryan Duran (0-3) went the distance and allowed two unearned runs and two hits while striking out three in a 2-0 defeat. Ryan McManaman doubled for the Flyers off winning pitcher Todd Lorenz (3-1), who yielded two hits and no walks while also going the route.
In game two, Andy Hansen (0-3) absorbed a tough-luck loss in Wisconsin-Parkside's 3-1 victory. Hansen gave just one run and seven hits and fanned four in 6 2/3 innings of work.
Lewis (2-14, 2-6 GLVC) allowed a pair of unearned runs in the ninth and trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the inning. After winning pitcher Scott Winters (1-0) retired the leadoff hitter, Wisconsin-Parkside (10-7, 5-3 GLVC) opted for reliever Tom Rawski.
Rawski retired the first hitter he faced before the Flyers rallied. Singles by Bryan Druktenis and Ryan Reynolds, sandwiched around a walk to Joe Carbone, loaded the bases. Joe Musolino (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence)'s single plated Druktenis, but Rawski snapped the Flyers' streak of four consecutive baserunners and registered the final out.
Winters allowed three hits and two walks in 8 1/3 innings. Reynolds had two hits for Lewis.
