Lewis Men's Lacrosse Falls at Home Against #15 Colorado Mesa

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University men's lacrosse team lost, 13-6, against No. 15 Colorado Mesa Sunday (March 10) at Lewis Stadium.

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Colorado Mesa 2, Lewis 1
Rathe made three saves in the first five minutes, while Colorado Mesa's goalkeeper also had a pair of stops. The Mavericks got on the board first with a goal at the 9:05 mark.

The next three shots on goal by Mesa were all stopped by Rathe, but then the Mavericks scored to make it 2-0 with 1:20 remaining in the opening quarter. Lewis responded with a goal by Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School) with just 16 seconds left, assisted by Blaz, to get within one.

SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 2, Colorado Mesa 1
The Flyers came out gunning early in the second quarter, with Good finding the back of the net to tie the game at two at the 12:39 mark off the assist from Boyenko. Lewis later took the lead as Paul Ruskoski (Tulsa, Oklahoma/Bishop Kelley HS) scored with a man advantage after taking a pass from Good with 4:12 left in the first half.

Colorado Mesa was able to even the score with a goal with 2:30 remaining in the period. Rathe made five stops in the second quarter to keep the game tied.

THIRD QUARTER: Colorado Mesa 5, Lewis 0
The third quarter was all Mavericks, with consistent pressure throughout the frame to take and build its lead. Mesa took a 4-3 lead with a goal just 17 seconds into the second half while the Mavericks were a man up.

Colorado Mesa scored again at the 11:55 mark, and neither team scored from there until the Mavericks made it 6-3 with its next goal that came with 6:11 left in the quarter. Mesa scored two more times the rest of the period before Rathe stopped both of its last two shots. The Flyers had just two shots on goal in the quarter, and both were saved.

FOURTH QUARTER: Colorado Mesa 5, Lewis 3
Lewis scored early in the fourth quarter, with Blaz scoring just 28 seconds in to cut the deficit to 8-4. The Mavericks responded with a goal at the 13:41 mark.

The Flyers came charging right back as Domenic Tarello (Libertyville, Illinois/Libertyville HS) took the ball all the way from the faceoff to scoring the goal just 10 seconds later to get Lewis back within four, 9-5. Unfortunately for the Flyers, Colorado Mesa scored the next three goals to all but decide the game, bringing its lead to 12-5.

Lewis scored again late as Schermerhorn found the back of the net with 3:59 remaining, but Mesa closed out the scoring in the contest with another goal at the 1:48 mark.

FINAL SCORE: Colorado Mesa 13, Lewis 6
