HTML ResultsMELBOURNE, Fla. – With outdoor hockey all the rage, No. 19 Lewis men's swimming followed suit with an outside dual meet at Florida Institute of Technology on Monday (Jan. 5). Lewis defeated the Panthers 109-96 at FIT's Panther Aquatic Center.
Lewis won nine of the 11 events.
Sophomore
Aidan Brennan (Naples, Fla. /Barron Collier) won the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 9:42.34 and came back later in the meet to take first in the 500 freestyle (4:45.14).
Lewis' dominance in the freestyle events continued in the 100 and 200 where sophomore
Victor Tarin (Godelleta, Valencia, Spain/IES Conselleria) won both events in times of 47.31 and 1:43.30, respectively. Junior
Matt Bacinich (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) picked up a victory in the 50 freestyle (21.81). Bacinich swam the final leg of Lewis' victory in the 200 medley relay (1:35.79).
Senior
Tyson Polack (Canby, Ore./Canby) pulled off a time of 52.37 with a victory in the 100 backstroke. Junior
Alex Elston (Algonquin, Ill./Algonquin) won the 100 butterfly in 53.27. Junior
Zach Ballon (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.48).
"We are tired, sore and a little beat up," Lewis head coach
Roger Karns said. "It's right where I want them to be. FIT is a good, solid team and swam very well. I was satisfied with our effort given the circumstances. On top of the enormous training load of the past week, swimming outdoors presents a unique set of issues. The wind blows the backstroke flags out of line. It can be cold and windy, and it was today. But we made good efforts and did as well as we could expect."
Lewis is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 10 against Olivet Nazarene. The non-conference home meet will start at 1 p.m. at the Lewis Pool. The Lewis men haven't lost a dual meet since the first weekend of the season.
