ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - 
Senior Mike Smith homered twice to power Lewis to a 12-2 victory over Southern Illinois Edwardsville in game one of a doubleheader on Friday. But the Flyers fell in the second game 5-1.
Smith hit a 3-run home run over the right center field wall to highlight a six run fourth inning for the Flyers. Senior Billy Duffy singled to knock in junior Joe Carbone for the first run of the inning. Carbone walked and stole second before scoring. Junior Chris McCall also knocked in a run in the inning. McCall then scored the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field by junior Ryan Reynolds.
In the fifth, Smith hit his second homer over the same right center field wall to score Duffy who singled before Smith. Duffy also scored in the seventh to score three runs in the opening game. Leadoff hitter freshman Mike Vucsko also scored three runs. Lewis got on the board first by plating Vucsko who led off the Flyers' first with a single.
Senior Jon Guzzo was ahead of batters all day and pitched seven strong innings to improve his record to 2-0.
In the second game, the Flyers responded to Southern Illinois Edwardsville's run in the top of the first with a run of their own. Smith singled and then scored to notch his third run scored of the day.
Senior Ryan Duran (0-1) absorbed the loss in game two. It was tied 1-1 going into the fifth but the Cougars scored three in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the contest.
The Flyers stand at 4-5 (1-1 GLVC). Southern Illinois Edwardsville now holds a 7-6 (1-1 GLVC) mark.
The two squads will meet again on Sunday at noon.
