Women's Cross Country Has Two In Top Three At GLVC Championships

Sophomore Amanda Porter finishes second, while junior Kathryn Hague places third.

Louisville, Ky. - Lewis University sophomore Amanda Porter (Commercial Point, Ohio/Teays Valley/Shawnee State) picked a fantastic time to turn in her best race of the year, as the Ohio native placed second overall at the 6K Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Cross Country Championship race at Bellarmine University's E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park on Saturday morning.

Porter raced to a time of 22:39.26, while Hague placed third with a mark of 22:46.57. Southern Indiana's Mary Ballinger won the race (21:46.29), helping the Screaming Eagles win the team title with 24 points. Lewis finished in fifth place as a team with 152 points.

"I was happy to see Amanda and Kathryn finish in the top three, because they ran a great race" Schwarting said. "Our number three through seven runners just didn't have a great day today, so that was a little disappointing to see."

Lewis freshman Amy Clawson (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) placed 50th overall with a time of 24:55.76, while sophomore Julie Jarrett (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) followed with a time of 25:05.57. Flyer sophomore Kellsi Howell (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) rounded out the top five for Lewis with a time of 25:33.80.

Lewis returns to action in two weeks, as they participate in the NCAA Regional, hosted by UW-Parkside, in Kenosha, Wis., on November 7th.
