Oct. 8, 2005 EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Terran Wertz broke the 19-minute mark for the first time in her collegiate career Saturday and finished 14th among 216 runners at the Border War Invitational. Wertz, who placed 12th among collegiate athletes, clocked an 18:59.36 on the 5,000-meter course. She was joined by Juliann Szablewski (99th, 20:37.62), Theresa Dexl (136th, 21:33.89), Amanda Hammond (145th, 21:50.96) and Tenleigh Ayers (152nd, 22:01.24), as Lewis finished 14th in the 22-team field. "Our athletes did a fantastic job of adjusting their pacing from our last race," Head Coach Rick Wemple said. "As a result, everyone ran faster or just as fast as they ran in our last meet, despite the fact that the Border War course was much more difficult." The Flyers take a week off before traveling to Rensselaer, Ind., October 22nd to compete at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship. |
