Sept. 30, 2006 CHICAGO - Terran Wertz and Juliann Szablewski turned in impressive performances for the Lewis University women's cross country team Saturday at Loyola Chicago's Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational. Competing in the Maroon Division, Wertz finished 40th among 379 runners with a time of 19:31 on the 5,000-meter route. Szablewski placed 53rd in 19:47. Renee Koziol (20:46) finished 117th, Kristin Johnson (20:54) placed 128th, Theresa Dexl (20:56) was 134th and Amanda Hammond (21:42) finished 189th. The Flyers finished 13th among 33 teams in the Maroon Division. "We had a great day," head coach Rick Wemple said. "Terran returned to lead the group. Her time wasn't too fast, but it was her first race this season. "Jules broke 20:00, Renee, Kristin and Theresa all broke 21:00, and Amanda ran about 20 seconds faster than she ran here a year ago," Wemple added. "The team result was 13 out of 33, and last year we were 20 out of 27. That's a big improvement." |
