KENOSHA, Wis. - Juliann Szablewski turned in an impressive 30th-place performance Saturday to lead the Lewis University women's cross country team at the Midwest Collegiate Open. Szablewski ran the 5,000-meter route in 20:09. She was joined by Renee Koziol (82nd, 21:17), Theresa Dexl (92nd, 21:26), Amanda Hammond (114th, 22:05) and Kelle Lederman (134th, 22:27). The Flyers finished 13th in the team standings. "We had a really good day," head coach Rick Wemple said. "Everyone ran well, especially Juliann. She ran 20 seconds faster than she did in any 5K race last season, and this was the most difficult course we've seen since I've been here. "We held Terran Wertz and Kristin Johnson out of the race," Wemple added. "If you plug those two in, I think we could have finished as high as eighth." |
