Sept. 9, 2006 NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's cross country team finished fifth in its season opener, North Central College's Chuck Carroll Invitational, on Friday. Juliann Szablewski led the Flyers, finishing 16th and covering the 6,000-meter course in 25:05. Also competing were Renee Koziol, 39th (26:12), Kristin Johnson, 47th (26:38), Theresa Dexl, 53rd (26:57), Amanda Hammond, 57th (27:07), and Kelle Lederman, 58th (27:10). "I saw some very encouraging signs in this race that bode well for the rest of the season," head coach Rick Wemple said. "Juliann was about 1:50 faster and Amanda was about 44 seconds faster than last year at this meet. One of our newcomers, Renee Koziol, was our No. 2 runner, and Kristin Johnson was our No. 3 in the first cross country race of her career." |
