ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University junior outside hitter Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) has been named to the Daktronics, Inc. All-Midwest Region Volleyball Second Team, as voted on by the region's sports information directors.
Sagat was named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Second Team earlier this month after helping the Flyers to a third straight GLVC Championship. She finished fifth in the GLVC in kills with a team-high 426. Her 1,279 career kills currently rank fourth in Lewis history and she is on pace to become Lewis' career leader in kills. This is the first all-region selection for Sagat.
"She earned freshman of the year her first year, second team all-conference last year and now region honors in her junior year," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "I think that's a sign she's working to improve each year."
The Flyers finished the 2008 season 31-8, their first back-to-back 30 win seasons in 20 years. Lewis has won 27 straight home matches dating back to 2007.
A Catholic University sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The mid-sized university is being honored for the fifth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report. For more information please visit www.lewisu.edu.
