Nov. 13, 2006 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University senior right-side hitter Sarah McKinney has been selected to the women's volleyball Academic All-District Five second team for a second consecutive season. The Academic All-District teams are selected by district members of the College Sports Information Directors of America and sponsored by ESPN The Magazine. McKinney, a political science major, was one of 19 players voted to either the first, second or third Academic All-District team in the college division of District Five, which covers Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota. McKinney started 25 matches this season, setting single-season career highs in kills (265), digs (266) and service aces (32). Among rally-scoring era players, McKinney finished her career ranked second on Lewis' all-time list in service aces (89), third in kills (871) and fifth in digs (862). McKinney has made the Lewis Deans' List every semester and is a three-time Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection and a three-time recipient of Lewis' Delahanty Award for academic excellence among student athletes. To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, a student athlete must have reached sophomore eligibility, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher and be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. The Flyers finished the 2006 season with a 25-6 record, capturing the team's first GLVC title in 14 years and making the program's seventh NCAA Tournament appearance. |
