Nov. 11, 2005 ROMEOVILLE - Lewis University junior outside hitter Theresa Nugent has been named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference volleyball second team for a second consecutive season, while Flyer sophomore setter Andrea Morrone made the league's honorable-mention list. Nugent led the Flyers and ranked ninth in the GLVC in kills per game (3.47) this season, and she also led the team in total kills (368), attack percentage among hitters (.242) and attack attempts (991). She averaged 1.91 digs and 0.61 blocks. Nugent tallied 20 or more kills four times this year, including a career-high 23 against Hillsdale (career-high 60 attempts) and Indianapolis. She registered a career-best nine total blocks against Northern Kentucky, tying her career high for block solos (three) and block assists (six) in that match. Morrone led Lewis and ranked 10th in the conference in service aces per game (0.39). She also led the Flyers in attack percentage (.257), was second on the squad in digs per game (3.81) and committed just six reception errors. Morrone, who earned the second GLVC Player of the Week award of her career August 29, posted career highs of 57 assists against Indianapolis, 28 digs against Southern Indiana, eight service aces against Indianapolis and seven total blocks against Central Oklahoma. She recorded 20 or more digs seven times, including a stretch when she reached that mark in three straight and four of five matches. Lewis was 17-13 this year, winning at least 16 matches for a sixth consecutive season. |
