Stephanie Sagat Named To Women's Volleyball Academic All-District Second Team

Nov. 5, 2009

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior outside hitter Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) has been selected to the volleyball District Five College Division All-Academic second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Academic All-District teams are chosen by CoSIDA members and sponsored by ESPN The Magazine. District 5 covers Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota, and the College Division is comprised of student athletes from NCAA Division II and III and the NAIA.

An elementary education major, Sagat has made the Deans' List in each of her first six semesters at Lewis. She is a three-time Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honoree and a three-time recipient of Lewis' Delahanty Award for academic excellence among student athletes.

On the court, Sagat became Lewis' all-time leader in kills earlier this season. In GLVC play, she leads the league in hitting percentage (.401) and kills per set (4.03 per set).

"Stephanie is the complete package," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "She gets it done on the court and in the classroom. She's been fun to work with and is very deserving of the honor."

To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, a student athlete must have reached sophomore eligibility, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher and be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.

Sagat has helped the Flyers to a No. 11 national ranking. The Flyers host Drury on Friday at 7 p.m. in a match which will be televised on Lakeshore Public Television. A Lewis win would clinch the regular season GLVC Championship and the right to host the GLVC Tournament next weekend.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The 10th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois is being honored for the sixth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
