Nov. 1, 2006 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University outside hitter Stephanie Sagat has been selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference volleyball Freshman of the Year. Junior setter Andrea Morrone has been named to the All-GLVC first team, and senior outside hitter Theresa Nugent and sophomore libero Lauren Hatter have made the league's honorable-mention list. Sagat is hitting .285 this season with 3.26 kills, 2.78 digs, 0.39 blocks and 3.85 points per game. Her production was even better during conference play, as she helped the Flyers to a 14-2 GLVC record by averaging 3.77 kills, 2.97 digs and 4.34 points against league opponents while hitting .291. Sagat is third on the team with 290 kills, and she has reached 20 kills in match twice during the season. Her season high of 21 kills came against Missouri-St. Louis on Oct. 6. Sagat is the third Flyer in program history to be honored as the league's Freshman of the Year. The last Flyer to receive the honor was Kathy Sulkowski following the 2002 season. Morrone is an All-GLVC selection for a second straight season, after making the second team last year. Morrone leads the conference with a 12.47 assists-per-game average. She's tallied 1,147 assists for the season and is now fifth on the school's all-time list. Morrone set a career high with 59 assists against Indianapolis on Sept. 30 and then proceeded to collect 60 assists against Missouri-St. Louis on Oct. 6, and 62 assists against Southern Indiana on Oct. 13. Nugent is an All-GLVC honoree for a third consecutive season. The team leader in kills each of the past two seasons, Nugent again leads the Flyers with 325 total kills and a 3.32 kills-per-game average this season. She has collected 1,294 kills for her career, which is third best all-time in school history. Hatter has been among the conference leaders in digs per game all season. Currently holding a 4.78 digs-per-game average, Hatter has collected a team-best 468 digs this season, just six digs shy of the school's single season record. This is the first All-GLVC honor of Hatter's career. She was selected as the league's Player of the Week on Oct. 3, after recording a career-high 33 digs against Saint Joseph's and 30 digs against Indianapolis the very next day. The Flyers, 22-5 overall, are the No. 3 seed for the GLVC Championship Tournament which begins on Thursday with the Flyers facing Southern Indiana at noon. Below is the entire list of GLVC honors.
