Oct. 30, 2006 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's volleyball team has secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament and will face No. 6 Southern Indiana in the first round on Thursday, Nov. 2, at noon on the campus of tournament-host Southern Illinois Edwardsville. The Flyers finished the regular season 22-5 for their best record since the 2002 team went 25-5. After starting the season 2-3, the Flyers went 20-2 the rest of the way. Lewis went 14-2 in conference play, which included a 3-2 win over Southern Indiana on Oct. 13. In the regular-season match against USI, Charisse Steckling and Stephanie Sagat combined to hit .417 with 42 kills to help the Flyers to a 25-30, 30-18, 30-23, 27-30, 15-8 win. Steckling hit .386 with 21 kills and Sagat hit .425 with 20 kills and nine digs. Steckling also registered six block assists. Sara deBuhr matched a career high with 16 kills along with three block assists, and Andrea Morrone recorded 62 assists, setting a career high. Making its seventh consecutive appearance in the GLVC Tournament, Lewis is looking to get past the first round for only the third time in the past six seasons. The Flyers won first round games in 2000 and 2002, but were eliminated in the semifinals each of those seasons. The Flyers' last GLVC Championship came in 1992.
